Trip To The Doctor! What the Doctor Says About Weight Loss.

Today is a new day! This is the only day that counts!

I have had a busy couple of days.  Yesterday, we had a dinner to attend.  My son, who is a senior, was being honored for being named to the Academic Hall of Fame.  The school hosted a dinner and invited us.  My son was allowed to pick an elementary teacher and a high school teacher that he felt inspired him.  My son received a plaque, as did the teachers.  It was a very nice evening.  It was quite an honor for him and for us.  He has put years of work into receiving this award, it was well deserved.

This morning I had a doctor's appointment, this was a check-up so I could get a refill on my blood pressure medicine.  My blood pressure was 120/80.  My fully dressed weight was 180.2.  I did take my shoes off, I'm not having that weight added on.  On my scales this morning, not fully dressed, I weighted 178 (Adjusted for 3 pound scale problem).

When I went to the doctor in September, I weighed exactly the same.  The doctor said well I'm happy to see you are maintaining your weight, although I would like to see your weight go down.  I couldn't help it, I'm too honest.  I told him that I was up about 5 or 6 pounds, but I had been working at it and got it off over the last month or so.  I told him I had lost 1/2 a week the last three weeks.  He told me that was perfect!  I need to maintain that rate.  He told me he doesn't want me to lose more than 2 -3 pounds per month, that is the way to change your eating habits and not lose muscle.  Well dang, aren't I just the best patient!  I cancelled my appointment about a month ago because I freaked out that my weight was up.  I didn't feel a need to bring that up, he didn't ask, so I didn't tell.

In September, I will have to have blood work again to check my cholesterol and my sugar.  He did mention that my sugar was still a little higher than he would have liked the last time I was checked.

Okay, here's the deal, I need you guys to keep me on track, so when I go back in September, let's see that's six months, right.  Okay,  I need to be down 12 to 18 pounds.  If you see me getting off track, get on me and get me back.  Tell me not to put unneeded crap in my mouth.  I like being the good patient, and I have always been an over-achiever so I really would like to lose the 18.  Truthfully, I would like to lose the whole 38 pounds.  I bet he would still be happy with me.  I just need to lose the 18 though, to be the perfect patient.

He says the easiest way to prevent diabetes is to exercise.  I need to continue to exercise as much as possible for the long haul.  I want to be healthy.  In all seriousness this is a lifetime change.  Of course, none of are happy with waiting for change, we want it to happen now.  I just have to be satisfied with seeing the change in the long term, because that will be the change that will last forever.
