Workout Wednesday - Getting My Husband to Try The New Diet!!

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Workout Wednesday - I haven't started working out with my Kettle Bell this week.  I have designated tomorrow as Workout Wednesday.  I have been doing some yard work so I have been getting some decent exercise.  I have been carrying around pavers and digging.  I will work out with my kettle ball tomorrow.  I am making a commitment to myself.

I asked my husband to join me on the diet and to try to lose some weight.  Of course, I said I just wanted him to be healthier.  He could probably lose 20-25 pounds.  I really think it would be easier if everyone in the house was eating healthy.  My son is doing a fantastic job, but he can eat so much more than I can.  He gave up sugar this year for Lent and hasn't eaten any obvious sugar since.  He still eats things like catsup and barbecue sauce.

Well guess what his answer was?  "I can't eat the stuff you eat!"  I told him, you mean you can't eat steak, chicken, and other meats.  You can't eat salads or vegetables and fruits?  He just looked at me like I was crazy.  The he said, "I just can't eat the stuff you eat!"

I really think the idea of diet makes him think it's something he doesn't want to do.  Since my son and I have given up sugar he has been eating more sugar.  He buys more dessert items than he ever did.  He has never been a big dessert eater and it seems he has now become addicted to sugar.  It's like he has to make up for us not eating it.

I just think he would feel better and have more energy if he starting eating healthier.  Do you have any suggestions to get him to eat healthier with us?

Now, getting to my progress on the diet today.  I have decided that there is no way that I can follow the meal plans exactly as they are laid out.  I just like being able to select my own meals.

That said, I did pretty well with eating only things from the days meal plans.  I just moved the meals around a little bit.

2 Eggs Scrambled with 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese
2 Slices Bacon
(Still didn't add the veggies)

I wasn't hungry again at lunch.  I ate again at 4:30, I had a combined lunch and dinner.  I ate a salad and a chicken breast.

I made the salad with about 1/4 of the cucumber and cut up the tomato, bacon, and egg.  I cooked the chicken breast in olive oil.

I am only drinking water.  I have decided not to have any diet drinks.  I usually drink some light lemonade that has 15 calories per serving.  I want to try to get through the first four weeks without anything like that.

After I got home from my grandsons' swim meet, I had my snacks for the day.  I had a hard-boiled egg and 1 string cheese stick.

I haven't been hungry and I have had no cravings at all.

  1. Here are my thoughts on this. If your husband sees you eating like you are on a diet then yes, he will say no, he won't do this. If however you make awesome meals like we have - roasts, casseroles etc but replace the potato or keep it less then he might be more interested.

There some great low carb desserts you could make if he is wanting sweet food.

BUT that might not work... sadly. I have always thought that understanding the science behind it is what works. Watching Fathead the movie (link on my blog under links) was very life changing for my husband and I. Also doing blood sugar readings can shock you into eating better.

Other than than, you can only look after you unfortunately. He might change if he sees you change for the better.

    1. I really do need to check out your recipes! I will also go watch Fathead. Not sure what it is, but is sounds like I need to see it. Maybe I can get him to watch it too.

  2. Hi Betty:) You did ask for suggestions...save yourself, first and foremost. Focus on your own health to the best of your ability. He will eventually join you...or he won't. You shouldn't let his non-participation bring you down. Being an example to your son is AWESOME!

    1. Thank Marc! I think my son has been the example to me. He has done much better over the last few months than I have. I am trying to stick with him on it and not buy things to tempt him. When my husband buys things I tell him to only get enough for him to eat and not lots of something to sit around. He sometimes gets upset because we are not eating things with him. You are right, I just need to take care of my health and hope he eventually follows along.

  3. Just cook healthy food and don't say the d word. He probably won't even notice. Lol!

  4. As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. That is your husband. Cook healthy. Eat healthy. Get healthy. Hopefully, in time, he will join you. Are you cooking two sets of meals for each meal? Or three? That's gotta stop. Maybe add one dish he can eat, but you cook healthy. If he wants to eat crap, make him make it himself. Tough love. :)

  5. Unfortunately Betty... your hubby will have to come around on his own.. I know that no one could get through to me until I was ready.. I had to want to do it. I would NOT be cooking different meals... he would have to cook his own!!!

  6. Your hubby will join in when he is ready. In the meantime you can only focus on yourself. Hopefully he becomes inspired by your good habits. You are doing great!

  7. This makes me feel lucky. My husband was the one to encourage me to go on the lower carb diet that we're on. The only problem I have is getting my sons to eat a bit healthier.

  8. Hi Betty! I agree with the others, that you can only do what is good for you (and thankfully your son is also eating healthy too). Eventually you have to hope hubby will follow along. You are doing awesome and being a good example so that is all that can be done right now. :)

Please take a moment and let me know what you think about this post. I love reading your comments. I try to answer every comment, maybe not immediately, but as quickly as I can.

Thanks!!! Betty
