Does Eating Protein Grow Hair Faster?

grow hair faster

I have been eating Paleo/Primal/Low Carb for about 2 months.  I got my hair cut in early July and took a picture to put on my blog July 10th, shown in the first picture.  I took a picture today and you can see how much my hair has grown in a little over five weeks.

My hair seems to be extremely healthy.  My hair has always grown fast but I really think it is growing faster and is healthier.  I don't know if it has to do with eating more protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, or just eating less processed foods.

I have to get my hair cut in the next week or two.  I think the first picture was a week or so after my last haircut/color.  I am anxious to see what my beautician has to say about how fast my hair has grown.  I have trimmed my own bangs a couple of times since my haircut.  She doesn't usually like me doing that but I can't stand them when they get too long!

Well to start with this picture is not my nails.  I haven't done my nails lately so I didn't want to take a picture of them.  I have been just too lazy to get a manicure or pedicure lately.  What I have noticed is that my nails are growing like crazy and they are healthier.  I was having lots of problem with my nails chipping and breaking.  There is no breaking now! They just seem to be getting stronger all the time.

Does protein help grow hair faster?  I really don't know the answer to that question.  I do believe that a healthy body grows hair faster and that everything on your body works better when you are eating healthy foods.

  1. Very cool! I remember how much nicer my whole body reacted to adopting healthy habits back when I lost 50lbs on WW. My skin was nicer, hair was healthier, and everything felt so good. I think the biggest helps In my diet were the water and healthy oils. I haven't been as strict with that stuff this time around, but I would love to try to tailor my diet to get those results again. I also would love to get my hair growing faster, so I can finally cut it! I'm so close to being able to donate without a SUPER short cut.

    Lookin' good!

  2. My hair is super healthy and strong... it grows very quickly. 5 years ago when I started my current job, I had a razor cut where my hair was about 2 - 3 inches long all the way around... now my hair is in layers with the longest part of my hair almost at my waist.

My nails have always been great, better when I was pregnant... lately not as good as they could be.. I think I just really need a good manicure, I have not taken care of them for over 6 months, I just cut them and paint them.

  3. Hi Betty! Personally, I don't know about the hair. My hair is tricky and stubborn. I do think that my skin got more lovely due to exercise, and possibly inverted exercise. :D

  4. Could be a combination of protein and vitamins in your healthy foods. B2 is supposed to be great for hair and nails.

  5. I have been lucky in that my hair and nails grow really fast, no matter what, but I could see why increased protein would improve someone's hair and nails, since they are basically made of protein. I never really thought about the impact of more protein on my hair and nails, but now that you mention it, it's just one more reason to eat better!

  6. Your hair does look very healthy! Eating right has to help -- I know I see a huge difference in my hair, nails and skin when I take my vitamins regularly, too!

  9. Not only does your hair look healthier so do you. There is a certain glow and suppleness in your skin, and yes I realize the lighting is different, but I can still see it. I can only hope that my hair, skin and nails turn around like yours are doing. I think it really may be due to cutting out all the processed junk, as you mentioned. Time will tell. Either way you look great, keep up the good work!
