I want to walk!! I'm Pouting!!

Today is a new day! This is the only day that counts!

Yesterday was not a great day for me.  I didn't exercise at all.  I had several things to do.  I went to the doctor, had to pick up my son's contacts, went shopping to buy my husband a birthday present and came out with new tops for myself.  I needed those for spring break, though.  Now I have to go shopping again for my husband's presents.  I still need some shorts for spring break, too.  I didn't get my shopping done, I ran out of time because I had to meet my friend for lunch.  She was coming from physical therapy, so we were going to meet each other while we were out.

When I got home my evening just seemed to implode on itself.  My son brought a friend home after school, until they went out for baseball practice.  I had to get them a snack.  When he left I decided I had better put something on my blogs.

Then it was time to make dinner.  As soon as dinner was over, my brother called and talked for an hour.  I don't talk to him that much, so I didn't want to shorten the call.  After the call, I thought, ahh, I can take a few minutes to myself now.  Another phone call, a friend that I walk with in the state park called, she needed some tax help, and then we had to catch up on things.  The next thing I knew 2 hours had passed and it was 11:00 p.m.   Well, by then, exercise had totally left my brain.  We did make plans to walk as soon as the weather allows.  Walking in the state park is very good exercise, up and down hills, uneven paths, stairs, but it is the most beautiful walk.  We usually walk for a couple of hours.  We take her dog along for protection from perverts.  She is also a retired state trooper, so I feel pretty safe with her, I would not go there by myself.  Too secluded in spots!

After missing exercise yesterday, I began to think.  I need to make myself some added goals.  I need to make a pact with myself to add exercise into everything I do.  At the doctor's office I could have taken the stairs and skipped the elevator.  At each place I went to, I should have parked at the outskirts of the parking lots and walked to the places, instead of parking as close to the door as possible.  I can make a few extra trips up and down the stairs at home.  I think it is amazing all the extra calories that you could burn in a day just by changing a few of your habits and being aware of opportunities.

Okay, did you see the picture of my deck.  This is why I can't get out and walk.  This stinks!  I'm done with winter. It was 63 degrees on Sunday, it is 27 degrees today.  I have every intention in the world of parking on the outskirts of parking lots when it gets warmer.  I am not a cold weather person, and I cannot make myself commit to it until it gets to a least 45 degrees.  Also I will not do it if it is cold and rainy.

So my pact is to find ways to exercise in everyday tasks, but only outside when the weather meets my standards.  I know, picky aren't I, but I just know when the time comes I won't do it.  I don't want to fail because I set my goals over my limits.  And I definitely know my limits when it comes to crappy weather.  Luckily, we should be seeing some better weather her, more consistently, in the near future.  I will walk in the nice warm spring showers.

Okay, is there anyone else who will commit to making a pact with me, to exercise in all everyday opportunities.  I will allow you some exceptions, too.  But please, let's not be too picky!

  1. Do you own a pedometer?

  2. Even once the weather improves, if you don't schedule an appt. with yourself to get exercise done, it will fall down on your priority list like happened yesterday. You need to make yourself a priority and schedule the time, and make it unbreakable (unless injured)...until it becomes second nature. :)

  3. Hi Betty B! Yes, like Susie suggests, you might do well with a pedometer.

  4. Our weather has been like that too! The pedometer is a good idea. I think the is a wrist brand (maybe Nike makes it?) that measures your steps, heart rate, and other info throughout the day. A friend of ours had one- seemed pretty cool! Spring will make it easier to stay on track though! You can do it!!

  8. I can sympathize! If I don't get a little exercise in here and there, I just don't do as well- mentally and physically. It's as good for my head as it is for the rest of me! :)
