Day 2, Thursday: Educate us on something you know alot about
or are good at. Take any approach you'd like (serious and
educational or funny and sarcastic)
I don't know that I am an expert at anything. I just learn a little about a lot of things. I love learning new things. I have been doing a few new things in the last year. First off, I have been studying genealogy, am I an expert, absolutely not!
I also purchased the Rosetta Stone French Package 1-5. I have been trying to learn French. Am I an expert at that! Holy crap! No!!! My son has four years of high school French and he says I speak with a hillbilly accent. I haven't really learned that much of it either. I need to spend more time with it. I really believe the program is good, but you have to make a daily commitment and really work at it.
Going back to the genealogy, I really learned alot about my family in a few months time. I had people who had been working at it for years that were really impressed with the amount I had learned in the time I had worked at it. I tend to go into things 100% for a while and then I find something else that catches my interest.
I was immersed in scrapbooking for over a year and I could do so many things. I purchased every piece of equipment imaginable. I even made myself a scrapbooking room. I have every thing my son needs to do a school project. He loves that! I haven't done any scrapbooking for the last year. I have been trying to make myself get started again. I have some things that need scrapbooked for my son's graduation next month. When I decide I will be able to get quite a bit finished in a few days.
When I became obsessed with exercise I got really good at it. I went to the gym daily. I was in fantastic shape. Now I really struggle to get myself to exercise at all. The weird thing is that I really enjoy it once I do.
I also really enjoy studying French, genealogy, and scrapbooking. I just seem to need something new to focus on. My newest focus seems to be blogging and building a social network. I hope this doesn't get to a burn out period in the next few months. I hope that I will have made enough friends to keep me going.
I do believe if I would stay with something for a long period of time, I could become a real expert.
as I write this I have a french cd in my laptop. I am learning french as well and I've given myself until the end of the year to speak it at entry level {to have small talks when I take my daughter to the french group}
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog
Good luck!! I really felt like I was doing well with it when I was working on it every day. Time just seems to be an issue. My son says when school is out he will work with me. That might help.
DeleteI love doing genealogy also, it's fun to learn about your family. I used to do genealogy for others as a side business, until our local libraries reduced hours making it difficult. What used to take a really long time, tromping cemeteries (which I still do), reading microfilm in dusty libraries (until you can't see), has been short circuited to what's on the net. Had a membership to ancestry.com for years and cancelled it about a year ago, as I just wasn't using it. It got toooooo expensive. However, it's easier and takes less time to do alot from your computer, do be cautions with info you find on line, and always question references. People have a tendency to forget the information on line is only as good as the person who posts the information. Love the picture of the family. Old photo's are always interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. I have spent quite a bit of time at the courthouses, graveyards, and libraries. I have a subscription to Ancestry.com, I use it to help me get started. I love Familysearch.org, they have so many records available where you can see the actual record. I also have spent hours with my son recording the local cemetery for Find A Grave and Billion Graves. I hosted a huge family reunion last summer. I started family history research in May last year. I told you I become obsessed with things.
DeleteForgot wanted to say while on your blog I was able to heart you and follow you on bloglovin. This am you showed up in feeds from there...so it worked. Still vague on how to do it from their page, I just don't see who's following me, but I do see those I'm following? Anyway hearted about half a dozen of your posts today. Hope that helps ya.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy, I hope you get it all figured out. I just starting blogging in December. I started with my family history blogs and then I started this one in February. I am still learning everyday.
DeleteMe again, When you left a comment on my blog and I click your name I do not get to your blog. I go to your google+page, took me 3 clicks there to actually get your blog instead of someone else's blog. It's really confusing. Could I suggest you leave the link to your blog vs the google profile thing. I think you could be losing followers, blog visits and comments because of it. Literally I had to click 5 times to get here (if I didn't know I could get to you from bloglovin), the average person probably isn't going to do that. Which brings me to another question. Things have changed over the last week with google+ and lots of folks who's blogs I visited and commented on during the a-z I'm unable to now, because you have to join google+ to see their blog and or to leave a comment. Have run across lots of notes, comments about this problem as I blog walk and many folks are trying to figure it out...how to fix it that is. Can you tell me how you're setting are so I can pass along the fix?
ReplyDeleteI was afraid if I left the link each time people would think I was spamming them, but I really like it when people leave the link too. I guess I will try to make a habit of it.
DeleteI changed my Google+ comments when they suggested it and people were complaining so I went to my profile and changed it back to the way it was before.
On the Blogger Dashboard you go to Google+ and unclick Google+ comments on this page.
I hope that's what you were looking for. If not, let me know and I'll try to figure out what you are needing.
