Blog Every Day in May - My Biggest Fear!

Day 7, Tuesday: The thing(s) you're most afraid of
I am not afraid of spiders, or snakes.  I think tornadoes are frightening, but you just have to take precautions and hope for the best.  I usually don't get too worried about most things.  I am a pretty positive person.  I really believe that you can get through most things.  My oldest brother was bitten by a Black Widow Spider when he was young.  He was in the hospital for a while, but he was fine later.  When there is a tornado close we get into a closet with our flashlight and wait it out.  I have always been able to kill a bug by myself, trap a mouse, put a hook on a worm, and take a fish off.  Some things are slimy, but not scary.  I get a little nauseous from heights, but I still went to the top of the Eiffel Tower.  So Cool!!!  I rode the train up the mountain to Mt. Pilatus in Switzerland.  I have been up in the Rocky Mountains.  I took the bridge over the Royal Gorge in Colorado.  I just think I don't like that feeling of not being in control.  I am willing to try almost anything.

The thing that really scares me is losing someone I care about.  My first husband died when my children were young and my brother died when I was 20.  It really scares me to ever think about losing a family member.

My husband and daughter

My Brother

Okay, I really don't want to think about that anymore.  I am moving on to things that are fun!

Note:  I had to change my comments to be approved.  I was starting to get daily spam.  I really want your comments, but I don't want the spammers so it was necessary.

  2. Hey, I'm sorry you started getting spam. That stinks.

I echo your fears. I have 5 brothers, and girly was never an excuse. Between the spider wars and pet snakes, well, I'm the bug killer in the family. My poor hubby. ;)

  3. I had to do the same thing with my comments! Spam sucks
I have to admit that I have the same type of fear. I was brought up from the age of 2 by my grandparents who I lost in my late teens/early 20's. This past year my ex husband died. With having a very small family now just my husband and children and their partners I'm terrified of something happening to any of them.

    1. My parents both have been gone for a while now to. I think when you have lost a few people like that you feel very vulnerable.

  4. Losing someone you love is the worst. My heart is so sad when I talk with people that have gone through that. I have gone through that, and it is very hard. But you are an inspiration...you have come through it and can be a help to someone that is just starting down that path.

Oh yeah....spam is the worst!! What I did was change my comments to registered users only. 99 1/2% of the spam stopped. Every blue moon you have a registered user leave a spam, but is rare.

    Have a lovely day!

    1. I am sorry to hear that you have gone through it to Frances. I'm sure lots of us have.

  5. Im with you I can handle just about anything but I dont want to lose anyone else. I recently lost someone to violence which was so much worse (for me) than it was losing family to illness. I think its made me lose faith in human nature which has been pretty scary all on its own. Thanks for coming to my site today. I am off to explore yours further!

    1. My husband and brother both died in accidents. I do believe violence has to be really bad. Any time a young healthy person dies it is so hard to understand.

  6. I'm sorry about the spam. I try not to be off topic. Sometimes I so err.

I think our ability to grieve and move on, strengthens us. I believe we're built that way. I'm sure we've both known the sixty year old married couple who die with a day of the other. What a mix of emotions wet our eyes at that thought?

If your protection for tornados is a closet I hope it is in a basement. Really. I've survived a flash-flood and a fire because I was prepared mentally and with device aforethought. Tornadoes are becoming more likely; I spoke that to Jeannie on the phone a few months ago and the following day a photo of a funnel cloud over Walla Walla was on Cliff Mass' blog. I've hardened a corner of my basement I can reach In < 30 seconds. The dogs are on their own, really.

    1. I have had people that are posting as anonymous writing all kinds of things.

No I don't have a basement, that would be nice. We go to an interior closet under a staircase.

  7. I moderate my comments as there are some really not nice people out there either promoting their website or are inappropriate in what they're on about. Losing family and friends is one of the saddest things we all go through isn't it?

    1. I had hoped they would go away, but they just keep it up so I decided it was time. I was tired of deleting their messages. Yes losing people we love is you difficult and it changes us.

  9. Hi Betty! That's pretty sad about your first husband. I feel bad for the younger Betty and all she had to go through as a young widow. Ah, poor you back then.

I've had more blog spam lately too.

    1. Thank Marion, it was a rough time but life continues and things get better. I will never forget those days, but I have gotten much stronger from living through them.

  10. I find the blog filters work about 99% of the time so only have my comments set for moderation after 1 month I think. One of the my 5 blogs tends to get more spam then the others, and I'm not why, except it's a higher ranking google rank so perhaps it's more visible? Sorry for your losses.

I'll try to always visit you from Bloglovin so I can star your post, I think that helps in their system?

  11. I switched from allowing anyone to comment awhile back too. Some of the spam was beyond ridiculous.

Those are good looking pictures of your first husband and your brother.

Your travels sound amazing and wonderful. :)

    1. Thanks, I have enjoyed traveling. I don't really have many pictures of either of them, just in my brain. They will always be a part of me.

  12. Maybe because my blog is still pretty new, I don't get much spam. Hopefully it will stay that way!

I am not deathly afraid of much either, because I also feel like you can get through most anything, even if it's not terribly pleasant. And I actually like spiders :)

    1. I think when you survive a few things you learn that you are stronger than you thought and you can survive most things.

I just started getting spam recently. I just didn't want it to continue.

I had a problem with spam too....makes it a pain for all of us honest folk!!

    1. Don't you just hate that a few people choose to ruin things for everyone else. Sad! Please take more chances and don't let the fear win. I think you probably have been taking more chances recently. It seems like you are getting out of your comfort zone when I read your blog.

  14. I have lost really close family members too (my dad when I was 11, an uncle, cousin) and I think that feeds into my fear of losing one of my children, I am sorry you lost your husband

    1. Thanks Samantha, I am also sad that you lost your father. That is so difficult. I saw how that affected my children. Once you have lost someone close you realize how quickly things can change. You don't feel invincible anymore. Since it happened to you at such a young age it changed you.

  15. I have been participating in #BlogEveryDayInMay as well, and saw your comment on my blog so I figured I would stop by and see what yours was all about! I'm so glad I did :-)

I wrote on a very similar topic of my fear of loss for Day 7, and I think it's a common theme for these posts I've seen thus far. I have been blessed beyond measure because I have not lost anyone super close to me yet, aside from my great-grandmother who was over 100 years old when she died so there was plenty of time for closure. Loss is hard, grieving is hard and I currently am on an oncology unit in my nursing school rotation and watch people and families have to cope everyday with loss.

Thanks for sharing a part of your story, I'm truly sorry for the loss you've experienced. Wish you the best!

    1. Thanks Ashley! I think you are probably a very compassionate nursing student. I'm sure it is very hard to spend so much time watching people grieve. I hope you don't lose anyone close to you for a long time!
