Blog Every Day in May - You are Making Me Uncomfortable!!

Day 3, Friday: Things that make you uncomfortable

What makes me uncomfortable!  I guess writing about things that make me uncomfortable is one of the things that make me uncomfortable.  Just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable.

Seriously, thinking about getting up in front of a group of people to speak makes me feel uncomfortable.  I'm not sure why, but it has always bothered me.  I know it is hard for a lot of people, and it is ranked as one of people's greatest fears.

Oddly though, as I get older, it seems to be easier.  I don't know if I have grown more secure with myself, so it doesn't matter as much what other people think.  I really don't know if it will ever get to the point where I am really comfortable with it.  Maybe if I live long enough.  I'm not sure how many years that might take!

When I was in school and I had to get up and speak, I would break out in hives.  My voice would get very high and shaky.  My body would get very cold.  I would have great presentations ready and skip parts of them so I didn't have to be up there any longer.

So why can I write things that many people will read and it doesn't bother me at all.  Is it because I don't know who is reading or is it because I don't have to see what they are thinking.  Don't know!!  If I did maybe I could figure out a way to become more comfortable.

I really think that as you get more comfortable with yourself, you are more comfortable with other people.
Also I might get senile someday and forget there are people listening and then it might be even easier!  Here's to senility!

  1. Awesome--and so true. You know what makes me uncomfortable? Tacks on my chair. But in more realistic circumstances, I know what you mean. It used to KILL me to play piano in front of people. The older I get, the less it freaks me out. Weird, right? =)

    1. There is something to do with getting older and being more comfortable with yourself. I think it seems to work that way with most people. Tacks on my chair would make me really uncomfortable too!

  2. Used to have to do a lot of professional speeches, and always hated it. Maybe a reason I moved out of that profession. LOL It's one thing to challenge yourself, but another thing to consistently put ourselves in situations doing things we hate. Life's too short for that. ;)

    1. I agree, life it definitely too short for that. We should be doing the things we love.

  3. I am more comfortable writing something than saying it. Part of the reason is I have time to edit and revise when I am writing, but when I am talking, boom, it's already out there!

    1. You know there is something to that. Sometimes things just seem to come out of your mouth and you wish you could put them back. In writing, you can put them back or start over again.
