Every Day in May - What I Do!!!

Day 6, Monday: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would

you answer the question, 'what do you do'?

Even when I used to work, I wouldn't have described myself by my

occupation.  It was only a small part of my life.  What I do, is enjoy

people, be it my family or a perfect stranger.  I thrive on being

around people.  I am not a very outgoing person, so that seems

strange.  I am not big on being around large groups of people.  I

enjoy being around individuals.

When I go shopping, even to Wal-mart, I try to talk to the cashier.

I ask them how their day is going.  I may say something like, this

place is crazy today, you must be having a rough day.  And the

responses I get are so wonderful.   People that were almost rud

and unsmiling will stop and smile at me and tell me about their

day.

When I go to a store or a restaurant very often, I am addressed by

name.  I love making people feel like they are important.  I love

helping an elderly person in a parking lot.  I ask if I can take their

cart and put it up for them.  I am careful to not make them feel

threatened.  I just want them to feel that someone cares enough

to help them.

I try to take a few extra minutes to make each person I encounter

feel better, if only for a few minutes.  This is just what I do.  I may

be making other people feel better, but I am really making myself

feel so much better.

I like knowing that most people aren't being rude because that's

who they are, the are just feeling under appreciated.

If I feel like a waitress is having a really horrible day, I will give her

a larger tip.  I just want to bring a smile to her face.  I know more

about some strangers than I know about my best friends.

I wish I had lots of money, it would be so much fun to leave a

super large tip for someone whenever I felt like it.  When I hear

stories of celebrities  leaving tips of a few hundred dollars, I think

wouldn't that be wonderful to be able to do that.

I personally get so much out of making people feel a little better.  I

truly enjoy people.

So I guess that's what I do!

  3. I have always been that way with waitresses. I've never been a waitress but I cannot stand when someone is rude to them. I always leave huge tips.
