Finish the Sentence Friday: A Sizzling Summer!!!

Finish the Sentence Friday:  This summer I plan to....

Janine's Confession of a Mommyaholic hosts the Finish the Sentence Friday blog hop each week.  I have participated on the weeks that I can find the time.  I really enjoy her uncompleted sentences.

This summer I plan to enjoy the heat!  Spring and winter were cold and not great in the weather department.  I love hot weather, so I will really enjoy that.  So bring on some nice, hot, summer weather and let it stay around until late fall.

This will be my son's last summer at home before he moves away to college.  Having had three other children move away to college, I know it changes them and you never have the same relationship again.  They mature, and they don't seem to need their mom as much.  I am still very close to all three of them, but the relationship is different than before college.   They are just so much more independent and have lives of their own.  So this is my last summer with my son before that happens.

He and I have always had such a great time together.  We enjoy so many of the same things.  He loves to travel and he loves history.

This summer we plan to spend some time doing more of our family history research.  I want to go to some of the places my family members lived and get pictures.  My son is excited about doing this with me.  I wish we could afford another long trip overseas, but with college costs that is out of the picture.

My son and I have always spent time running around the country in the summers for travel baseball.  He is saying that he is not going to play this summer.  So, unless he changes his mind, there will be no travel baseball this summer.  We have traveled the last 10 summers, so that will be so different.  He doesn't want to play college baseball.  He wants to go to college and double major in International Studies and History.  He plans on staying and getting a  Master's too.  He wants to do some study abroad programs.  He has very definite plans and baseball isn't included.

My husband used to travel with us, but when he changed jobs he didn't have the time to go away for most of the summer.

So my summer is going to be different, maybe even better.  My grandsons will still be playing baseball in the summer, so I can get enough games just hanging out with them.

I hope my summer sizzles!!  I have lots of fun places to go to.  There are restaurants I want to try.  I have been looking forward to going to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport, Kentucky, right across the river from Cincinnati.  My son and I ate at the Hofbrauhaus, a german beer house in Munich, Germany a few months ago and we want to see if the Newport one is similar.  The German one was great!!  And I have lots of family history in Cincinnati.  Killing two birds with one stone !

Lets get through the end of school and graduation so we can get to summer!  Hope you all enjoy your summer!  Do you have any great plans?  Share!!!

  2. When my sons were younger I'd travel all over the place with them. I sure miss that time with them. My husband is a workaholic so very rarely did he ever join us. Sounds like you have a fun summer planned.

  3. Sounds like a great summer, Betty. My oldest is finishing up her freshman year in high school, and I often think about how we only have a few summers left before she goes off to college. Aside from our California vacation, we plan on sleeping in, hanging by the pool, and spending time with friends and family.

  5. I am totally with you on the clear superiority of the heat of summer (and the warmth of spring) over the awful conditions of the rest of the year (at least in my locale, southern coastal New England).
I would think it will be an interesting time, as routine and enjoyable traditions get shuffled and exchanged.
    Go FTSF Post!

  7. That sounds fantastic! I can hardly wrap my head around spending time with a college-aged child, as mine are still so young! I bet it's so rewarding traveling together and sharing hobbies when your kids are older. Have a wonderful time!

    1. Oh Stephanie, It will come sooner than you think! It seems like no time at all when I was excited about him crawling and taking his first steps. Time just seems to fly by. I love the relationship we have developed over the years.

  8. First you made me kind of misty eyed over having your last baby head off to college. And then you hit me with all these fabulous things you do together. Dammit woman, I'm trying to keep my mascara on. Oh wait, no I'm not.

  9. Your summer sounds so wonderful, and then I felt sad....I have a boy who is only 7, but as I was having one of my sleepless nights I started thinking about how he is only 13 years away from 20! That's gonna go by in a flash! I hope you and your sons continue to spend a lot of time together!

    1. Jen, just think you have several great years to spend time with your son. Please don't start worrying about him growing up yet, just enjoy everyday and make them special! I do still spend time with my older children. Tomorrow I am having Mother's Day at my daughter's house and my three sons will all be there. We all have so much fun together!

  10. Your summer plans sound fine! I totally understand that you are in a way sad about your last son leaving home.

As for the Hofbräuhaus, we were at the one in Las Vegas and it was really delicious. So I think the one in Newport will be great, too!

I don't know if you checked back on my blog after your comment but I wanted to answer your question: I am German and I live in Germany, too.

I read that you visited Germany a few months ago! Is there a link on your blog where you wrote about the trip? I would love to read it!
