FINISH THE SENTENCE FRIDAY
If I could go back and do something over it would be......
I would have sold my house years ago and moved into a new house.
During the years I have remodeled my house several times. I added a second story. I have added a new kitchen and turned the old kitchen into another room. Since my husband and I have been married we have added a detached 3 car garage, plus we haved added a huge deck and a pergola.
We have updated several things in the 36 years I have lived in the house.
Thinking back now, I should have just changed houses and I would have been better off. I have loved living in my house. I had some great neighbors, but in the last few years they have been moving away or dying. So now I have too much money in my house to sell it.
My husband and I will probably cut our losses and move to a smaller house in the next few years, since it will be just the two of us.
FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY
Why do you blog? Business or Pleasure?
Well I definitely started our for pleasure. And at this point I am still blogging for pleasure. I have only been blogging for about 5 months.
I have been thinking that it would be great to get to the point where I could make a little bit of money from it. I would like to stay retired, but I still need to make some money. If I can build it enough to make a small amount of income it would be ideal. I could make money doing something that I truly enjoy.
Do you blog for business or pleasure? Have you thought of trying to make money from your blog?

Hi Betty, I blog for pleasure, though I have ad sense on my blog. It will pay me 100 dollars in ad generated income someday, maybe. I've had it on my blog for about a year now and I'm up to 44 dollars:D Maybe at Christmas 2014 I'll get my check - LOL!
ReplyDeleteI know Marc, we must not be doing something right. I think I have about $9 so far.
DeleteI blog only for pleasure, and that is all it will ever be. I don't follow people who's blogs are littered with nothing but ads in the sidebars. A little bit like you two now, no biggie. But I'm not into professional bloggers, MDA excepted. But that's just me. :)
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has there own idea of what is okay. That is why we all chose the blogs that appeal to us to read.
DeleteThere are some blogs that I can't find what they are posting about for all the advertisements. That doesn't appeal to me at all!!
Hi Betty, I Blog for pleasure, I have an adsense account, I haven't checked it in 6 months... there was about 30 dollars. I won't retire on that :)
ReplyDeleteI am not too sure the Adsense ads really do much for anyone.
DeleteYay, you were able to link up and must say still think your house looks lovely from the pictures you shared though. But can understand wanting a bit different. Thank you seriously for always linking up with us Betty and hope you have a wonderful weekend now!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting each week!!
DeleteAwww it sucks when you've put a bunch of money in a house and you don't want to live there anymore. Don't you wish someone would come along and say, "My wife wants this house" (like in the movie Notebook) and offer to write you a check for whatever amount. Only in our dreams.
ReplyDeleteI really wish that would happen. I would move closer to the grandkids!!
Deletewhat a beautiful deck...wow!!!! I can understand your thoughts on getting a different house instead of updating...but wow...
ReplyDeleteWe love our deck. I wish I could take it with me. We have put lots of money into it.
DeleteThe change in demographics and fuel costs, not to mention aging independently, requires changes of all of us. Maintaining a house is calculated by the square foot, roofing, painting, et al. Same with deck coatings. And they're things that if not maintained will quickly reduce value of the investment.
ReplyDeleteI built a large house once because I could. It soon owned me. I sold it for what I owed with enough for a downpayment on 650 sq ft. Just right. I've improved it enough to lower my gas and electric utilities by 45%
Actually Kenya G. Johnson, that happened to my mom and her husband. No one was at the house that had just been listed next door and they knocked on her house. Al invited them in and asked them to consider an offer. (Al has a background in real estate) The agreements were signed by the time the neighbour arrived home. It was the large deck Al had built that was the selling point.
Our house is going to be way too big for the two of us. It was great for raising a family, but it is time to downsize.
DeleteI don't think you are the only one who has regrets about selling/not selling a property- those decisions are so agonizing! And I can honestly say, though I wish I were blogging for business, it is now still for pleasure... maybe someday!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure with all the traffic you are getting it will be easy to switch your blog over to business.
DeleteYou are right! I will hate to leave where all my babies grew up. I think for finance reasons we need something smaller. Also we need to live closer to the grandsons now! I guess we can add a deck to a smaller house.
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel. A few years ago, we moved into the house where my husband grew up (his parents down-sized). The house has TONS of sentimental value, but also need many updates. Sometimes I am overwhelmed when I think about all the $$ it would take to really make it the way I want it!
ReplyDeleteMy inlaws are in the same boat with their house. They live in a very small town and most of the people that they know are passing away so they would like to move closer, but they aren't even sure if they could find anyone to buy it. I blog for pleasure, but I do also make money off of my blog, so I guess it's both :)
