A-Z Blogging Challenge - Do Dogs Miss You????

Today is a new day! This is the only day that counts!

Today is the letter D so I thought I would talk about my dog.  She is a sweet little Puggle named Sophie. She is very attached to her family.  She is a very calm natured animal and very much a member of the family.

Sophie does not like to travel!  She panics if you take her anywhere in a vehicle.  I have tried taking her on 5 minute car tripsto help her adjust.  She stresses out completely.  The only time we take her in the car now is when we have to take her to the vet.  That 's a 15 minute drive and takes 2 people.  One to drive the car and one to deal with her.  We have a crate that buckles into the car seat.  She about rios it out of the car each time.  Someone has to sit beside and try to keep her calm.

Her fear means we can never take her with us, anywhere.  When we leave the house she gives us her sad eyes and mopes.

Well, when we were going on Spring Break we couldn't take her anyway, so she is at home for a week. We don't board her because she is such a creature of habit, we are afraid if she had to go to a kennel she would really stress out.  We have two friends that are great about taking care of her when we go away. One lives closely and she will just check in on her several times of day.  Well this year she is away, too.

This year another of my friends, who is going through some issues at home, decided that she would come stay with her, she and her 18 year old son.  So Sophie has some friends.  My friend is checking in with us every day and Sophie is acting really sad.  They said she will sit with them if they call her
over, but she is just laying by herself most of the time.  She  doesn't have her usual happy nature.  She is sad, her family is gone!

I do believe dogs and other animals become attached to their families and they miss them when they are gone.  How do you feel about this?  Do your pets miss you?

Here is a picture we took they day we were leaving.  Sophie starts acting mopey as soon as we get the suitcases out.  On the day we were leaving she just layed around and would barely move.

  1. Yup, I hear ya, Betty! Bet I'd get a yes from your friend and her son for a farm sitting stint in Maine in the summer, but sadly that's not when I'm likely to want to get away... Thinking about getting another dog for a companion to pup and an inside house/doggie door/outside kennel thing, just so I don't feel so guilty.

  3. Of COURSE they miss us! They are companion animals. We are fretting about having to board our dogs for 2 weeks in the fall, but there isn't really any other option. It is at the vets, and I know they will be well loved, but it's not the same, and the stress from being boarded... I try not to think about it. :(

  4. Awww... yes, pets totally miss us. My weimar gets anxiety if I am gone too long. My borio will sit on the stairs and look out the front windows, waiting for me to get home.
Just wait ... when you get home, you will get greeted with lots of lovings!! :)

  5. Our dog does a similar thing, but although he likes to ride in cars he is not a very good car rider.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting.
