My grandson has a friend party today and a family party tomorrow.
My biggest challenge is birthday cake. I am a sugar addict. I will believe I can eat one small piece. Then I am eating a whole cake. After that comes eating frosting out of a can! I just can't eat things that are predominantly sugar. Sugar is like a drug. If I stay away from sugar my weight melts away.
I WILL NOT EAT ANY BIRTHDAY CAKE THIS WEEKEND!!!
I am 58, overweight again, and trying to get healthy. I am blogging about weight loss and everyday issues for women. My blog will include ramblings about the daily life of a mother, grandmother, wife and friend. I would love to have you come along for the ride!
Sugar, in combination with fat and salt in particular, is/are drugs, and ones that the food and restaurant industry are very systematically pushing at us because of the brain chemistry changes that occur that force the eat-crave-eat-crave syndrome. The only way around it is to stop eating it, and you are doing the right thing by not eating the cake when you aren't (yet?) strong enough to resist the cravings in even small amounts. I highly recomment Dr. Kessler's book The End of Overeating. After decades of over-eating and yo-yo dieting, it's been a game changer for me.
ReplyDeleteYou can do this by not doing this, this weekend! Hang tough! The rewards of not eating the cake far, far outlast and outweigh the momentary pleasure of eating it! :)
You are right. I will check out the book. For some reason salt isn't as big an issue for. I can eat just one potato chip and walk away. That's for the encouragement!
DeleteGood Luck!
